The war of 1812 lasted from 1812-1815. The reasons that the war happened is because the British attacked American ships and impressed many Americans. Another is that the British hadn't cleared out of the forts in the Northwest Territory yet and Americans wanted the Indian's land but the British wouldn't let them have it. The younger emerging leaders were in favor of the war because of the lack of knowledge they had about the American Revolution and the older leaders were against the war because they knew the struggles that war has.
During the war the British burnt down the president's house and everything but the outside walls on the capitol building. The Star-Spangled Banner was written describing one of the battles in the war of 1812 and after the many battles that it had the Americans prevailed and had beaten the British.
