Many things attracted people to the Oregon area. The main reasons were were that it was good land for farming and had lots of gold. The Oregon Trail was over 2,000 miles long and took about 6 months to complete. The main source of transportation was Conestoga wagons (4ftx10ft). These wagons were pulled by two oxen since they were strong, durable, and you could eat them in an emergency. All of the families belongings and the people that weren't able to walk went inside the wagons. It was a very long journey and many people died along the way. Cholera was the main source of death on the Oregon Trail. The trail was very dusty due to all of the wagons and it was a bumpy ride. The weather along the journey wasn't good either, there was lots of thunderstorms and it sometimes killed people.
